Local searches have always been on a map. Augmented reality is merging the real world with virtual images, most likely through the camera lens of your cell phone. You can look through the camera of your cell phone and see points of intrest such as coffee shops, resturaunts, theatres, and pretty much whatever you can think of.  It is difficult to explain augmented reality without actually showing you, so look at this video clip:

My favorite augmented reality app for Android is Layar. Some of my iFriends like wikitude for the iPhone. I believe that in a few years, it will be normal to see hundreds of people spinning around in circles with their phones in Times Square.
